HYGIENE POLICY

Funk shouldn’t be a part of the story. Lore Con is for everyone and that means part of taking care of others around you is taking care of yourself. North Carolina can be warm, even in the fall, and being at the convention center should be a marathon.

This policy applies to attendees, vendors, panelists, guests, sponsors, volunteers, and staff. Nobody is here to embarrass anyone. We are here to keep the floor comfortable for every person in it.

The Short Version

Shower. Deodorant. Clean costume. Drink water. If you are sick, please stay home.

Before You Arrive

Shower the morning of each day, use deodorant, and brush your teeth. Start each day in a freshly cleaned cosplay and fresh socks. Anything worn Saturday should be aired out or washed before Sunday.

Full suits, foam, worbla, wig caps, etc, hold heat and sweat far more than street clothes do. A moisture wicking layer underneath makes a long day a lot easier on you and everyone standing next to you.

Pack A Con Kit

Keep a small bag on you and reapply through the day. Midday touch ups are normal and expected at a convention. Bathrooms are easily accessible within the convention center. Here are some recommended items to pack:

• Deodorant
• Body wipes and a small towel
• Toothbrush, floss, or mints
• Hand sanitizer
• A spare pair of socks and a spare shirt
• A refillable water bottle
• A snack that is not just candy

Eat, Drink, Rest

We know that energy is high at a con, but we want the story to stay positive and for you to take care of yourself. Try to get at least six hours of sleep, drink water, two real meals, and one shower every day. Water beats energy drinks on a convention floor and water stations will be located throughout the floor.

Ask For Help

If you start to overheat, get lightheaded, or feel your cosplay working against you; take a moment to step out of the crowd, find a quiet spot, and flag down a Lore Con staff member if you need help. They can be spotted wearing red shirts.

Fragrance Awareness

Please go light on perfumes, colognes, and body sprays. Heavy fragrance in a packed hall can set off migraines and asthma for a lot of people, so be mindful. BODY SPRAY IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR A SHOWER. Please do not spray any aerosols on the convention floor, in panel rooms, or in line.

Shared Spaces And Shared Gear

Make sure to frequently wash or sanitize your hands after using shared areas like the lounge or gaming areas and definitely after using any shared controllers. Be sure to wash your hands before eating. Please always cover up any coughs and sneezes. Please help us keep the hotel and convention center clean by throwing away your trash instead of leaving it at vendor tables, panel rooms, and any other open areas. Other attendees, guests, staff, vendors and volunteers will be using those areas all weekend alongside you.

If You Are Sick

If you wake up with a fever, are actively vomiting, or have a contagious illness, do not come to the convention that day. Things happen, so if you start feeling sick onsite, please mask up or leave early to protect other attendees.

How We Handle It

Lore Con is an inclusive space and embarrasment should never be a part of the lore. If something needs to be addressed, staff will handle it privately and respectfully. We will speak to you one on one and never in front of a crowd or a line. We are not here to shame anyone and we know there are medical issues and some hygiene issues that are not fully within a person’s control. If approached by Lore Con staff or volunteers, please take the conversation in the spirit it is given. For repeat offenders refusing to address issues that is affecting others around them, Code of Conduct enforcement may apply.
